Fix Me A Plate

Fix Me A Plate

A Hosted Community Dinner Series
“Fixing a plate for someone is an act of sharing, an act of love and care that says” - I want you to be fed.” The Southern Foodways Alliance
About Fix Me A Plate (FMAP):

Fix Me A Plate is a series of dinners designed to foster  conversation, connections and community. At this dinner, you will join a small group of folks who are seeking to foster meaningful relationships. We'll provide space for conversations where every person is welcome to contribute as they are comfortable. The goal is that every person leaves feeling seen and heard as an individual (beyond the normal ‘what do you do for a living’) and is connected to someone new or in a new way. A former partner of mine used to say ‘every human is hard wired for connection’ and that connection is what we are aiming to facilitate.

The menu has been carefully created to bring joy to each person. Most of our dinners include music of some kind, plenty of drinks options and even after party/late night options (for those that want to keep the party going!).

How to Participate & Expectations:

The most important expectation is for you to engage with your full self. Besides that, here are the expectations for our community:
  1. RSVPs are needed at least a week before the dinner
  1. Because space is limited (8 - 10 folks for each dinner) and this is an intimate setting, please RSVP as soon as you can. If your plans change, please reach out to the host as soon as you can.
    1. RSVPing with a ‘NO’ or ‘Maybe’ is also very helpful.
    2. Once the RSVP list fills up, new interested folks will be added to the waitlist but aren’t guaranteed a spot.
  1. RSVP using the Partiful link below for the month you are interested in. You’ll be directed to the Venmo page to pitch in $5 (if this is problematic in any way, just register and reach out to the Host).
  1. Contribute to the dinner in one of these two ways:
    1. Food - bring a side, dessert or drink that fits with the main dish above
    2. Cleaning - help with some light cleaning after dinner (nothing too intense)

About your host

I was raised in the southern state of Alabama, where I learned the skill of feeding the body as a tool for connecting with the soul. Some of my most nourishing times in life have been spent farming for food production and cooking for others. I like to think of myself as a hobbyist chef and an amateur foodie. Bringing people together for food and connection in an intimate space like this is the realization of a long time dream of mine. ~ Aaron

❔FAQ

Can I bring a guest?
If there is space yes. Contact Aaron ahead of time.
What time is the dinner?
We start with drinks and apps at 6:30 and plating dinner at 7. Aim to arrive by 7 pm. We’ll end around 9:30/10 or whenever the party ends!
Where is the dinner?
The dinners are held at Aaron’s house in West Oakland. If you don’t have the address, reach out via text.
Is there parking at the location?
There is a decent amount of street parking around the neighborhood. It’s generally a safe neighborhood but you should take all normal precautions you would in Oakland (bring all items inside etc).
Can I RSVP for dinners in the future?
RSVPs will open about 1 month before each dinner. As soon as they are live, an email will go out to everyone on the list letting you know it’s time to RSVP!.
